SKULL Gear Chevy Cobalt Has Best Run of 7.079 Seconds

DENVER, July 15, 2006 -- Dave Connolly and the SKULL Gear Chevy Cobalt were as consistent as the weather was hot during qualifying for Sunday's Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Crew chief Tommy Utt took advantage of cooler Friday night temperatures to tune the car to its quickest run, 7.079 seconds at 194.88 mph in the thin air. That time held for third-quickest and Connolly will race newcomer Max Naylor in Sunday's first round.

While that was his best time, it was the 7.108-second performance Saturday afternoon in the 103-degree heat that brought smiles to Connolly, crew chief Tommy Utt and the crew.

"That was second-quickest of the session," said Connolly. "We should be in pretty good shape Sunday. It's a totally different (racing) world up here. Having a top-three car up here is pretty impressive. Our goal is to run good Sunday and go some rounds."

Connolly enters the race 71 points behind pacesetter Greg Anderson, 801-730.
