Connolly Loses Early but Doesn't Lose Ground in Points Chase

Dave Connolly was succinct while recapping the performance of the Charter Communications/LifeLock Chevy Cobalt Sunday in the opening round of the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

"I wasn't the best of days, Connolly said of his frustrating first-round loss to Larry Morgan in . "It took us forever to make a decent run and we thought we'd have some of that today. We made a decent run but you can't make decent runs anymore if you want to win. You've got to hit the tree and you' ve got to make nice runs and weren't doing that."

Connolly and the crew were hoping to add more round wins to their total and pull closer to the top 10. He is 11th and remained there as his two rivals for the last spot in the championship playoffs also lost in the first round. He has 512 points and is 53 points back of 10th.

"This wasn't the best of weekends," said team owner Victor Cagnazzi. "But we are happy we remained on par in the points chase and we are looking forward to going to Seattle and running at sea level."

Morgan jumped to an early lead and maintained it, winning in 7.045 seconds at 195.05 mph to Connolly's 7.053 at 195.17 mph.
