MORRISON, Colo. (July 12, 2008) -- It was down to only two chances on Saturday for Bob Tasca III to qualify into the field for Sunday's Mile-High NHRA Nationals. After entering the second day of qualifying at Bandimere Speedway without a recorded qualifying time, Tasca ended the day in the top half of the Funny Car field and in the No. 6 qualifying spot.

"Chris said we can't get bumped [on the radio] and then he went to the box and he was turning the wick up on this thing," said the rookie driver following his fourth qualifying run. "I'm liking it here at the Mile-High [Nationals]. A great weekend for us, a nice way to end the day and [we're] going into tomorrow with some momentum."

Under this season's new qualifying rule, only the top 12 qualifying times from Friday carried over into Saturday, leaving the driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane/Custom Accessories Shelby Mustang with a job to get done in order to have a chance to maintain his spot in the top 10 in points.

"This is what is so amazing about this sport, the highs and lows are just unbelievable," said Tasca. "This morning, we just needed to get in the field and get qualified, and we had a good run earlier today that got us into the show. Then when [Tony] Bartone didn't make the field and we knew we were solidly in, Cunningham went to the box in the car and made some last minute changes. He didn't tell me exactly what he was doing, but I knew that he was going for it. You don't want to be 16th going into Sunday, and we needed to show that we could run with the Big Dogs out here.

"It's Chris' birthday today and I know last night he was frustrated that we weren't in the show," said Tasca. "Cunningham is a methodical guy. He goes up to the line with a game plan as to what the car is going to run, and it's amazing how close he can get to that number, so I knew he was frustrated last night when the car didn't do what we expected. The guys stayed here until almost midnight last night to get this thing figured out, and today they gave me a racecar that can win the race tomorrow. As a driver and a team owner, that's all you can ask for."

Tasca will face Ron Capps in the first round of the Mile-High NHRA Nationals on Sunday, and will look to improve his 0-2 record against Capps this year.
