BROWN DRIVES MATCO TOOLS RAIL TO NO. 4 SPOT AT DENVER
MORRISON, Colo. (July 12, 2008) -- Antron Brown made the first 1,000-foot pass in NHRA history and drove his Matco Tools dragster to the No. 4 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Bandimere Speedway. Brown's historic effort came Friday evening when he posted a run of 3.998-seconds.
Brown, a two-time Top Fuel winner this season, made the first three-second pass in NHRA history on Friday evening under the lights at Bandimere Speedway when he powered the Matco Tools/Valvoline dragster to a run of 3.998 seconds at 287.11. That placed Brown in the provisional No. 4 qualifying position. On Saturday's first qualifying attempt, the Lee Beard-tuned Matco/GoFast dragster clocked the second quickest pass of the session when Brown recorded a pass of 4.034 at 286.38. The team elected not to make the final qualifying run. It is the fifth time that Brown has qualified fourth this season. Only four cars ran in the three-second range during qualifying.
"We feel confident going into Sunday and we're going for a win with all this great Matco Tools support here at Denver," Brown said. "It's gonna be a tough match-up with my teammate. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Hot Rod (Fuller) is one of the best. I just wish it was the finals instead of thefirst round."
Brown will face off against David Powers Motorsports teammate Hot Rod Fuller and the Caterpillar team in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at Noon (MT) on Sunday at Bandimere Speedway. They two DPM drivers have yet to meet this season. Fuller qualified 13th with a run of 4.050-seconds.
