Taylor reaches quarterfinals in Vegas
LAS VEGAS - Victory can be addictive. Once you get a taste, anything less just isn't as sweet. Such is the case for NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Dennis Taylor. Given the past two seasons he and his Plumbing Concepts backed team have had, Taylor cites he should be happy with his team's quarterfinal finish during this past weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals at 'The Strip' in Las Vegas. However, given the past few races, filled with three straight final rounds at one point, Taylor is not content.
Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company Taylor Motorsports Products in Anaheim, Calif., qualified his Ora Vasquez tuned Camaro sixth in the field with a 5.751 second run at 243.85 mph. In round one, Taylor took out Jeff Carroll with a 5.768 at 245.67 mph. Taylor's day would end in round two, however, as his 5.824 at 243.77 mph was not enough for Ron August, Jr.'s 5.809 at 249.49 mph.
"You would think with the last few years I've had, I'd be pretty happy with a second round loss," said Taylor. "But given the way we've been running, we really wanted more. We just came up on the short side of a good drag race. We didn't tear any parts up, which is a good thing, and the crew is doing an excellent job on the car. My crew takes a lot of pride in being one of the fastest in the class. It's like a contest to be the first car to fire after a run, and usually, we are. We were very consistent all weekend, and I have to thank my Crew Chief Ora Vasquez for that. Consistency will win more often than not, so I feel confident with our set up."
"I also have to thank the sponsors that make this possible," Taylor continued. "With the support of Plumbing Concepts and my great associate sponsors Valvoline, Pepsi, Mickey Thompson Tires, Metro Moulded Parts, Shaker Shirts, Ultimate Designs, Bear State Heat and Air, Adam's Polishes and Taylor Motorsport Products, we are able to come out here and compete. We hope to continue to run well to give them the most return on their investment in our team."
The next race for the Plumbing Concepts team will be race three of the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in Sacramento, Calif. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
