Taylor looking to stay on a roll in Vegas
LAS VEGAS - In a town that is all about staying hot, that's exactly what NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Dennis Taylor hopes to do during this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals at 'The Strip' in Las Vegas. Taylor won the season-opening K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, and hopes to double up in Vegas with his Plumbing Concepts backed Camaro.
Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company, Taylor Motorsports Products, in Anaheim, Calif., is very optimistic about this weekend coming in off another strong showing last weekend at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Tucson.
"We had another good outing in Tucson," said Taylor. "Obviously we would have liked to win the event rather than the semifinals, but Division 7 is extremely tough, and Doug Gordon made a great run in the 'bad' right lane to beat us. My Crew Chief Ora Vasquez and the crew kept the car very consistent all weekend. It was hot; I don't think the corrected altitude got below 5100 ft, and we still managed to run 5.80's all weekend."
Taylor is excited to be back racing on the national event level.
"The track is normally killer in Vegas, so we should be able to get after it," stated Taylor. "You're going to have to, with the caliber of cars that will be out there. I have faith in this team, and hopefully we can put the Plumbing Concepts Camaro in another winner's circle."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars. Qualifying will conclude with one final session Saturday afternoon and first round of eliminations will be ran that evening. Final eliminations will conclude the event that evening. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
