Wells looking for win No. 2 in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. - With one NHRA national event win this year already to his credit, Top Alcohol Dragster driver David Wells will be looking for No. 2 during this weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. Wells, who is currently in fourth place nationally, hopes a win can help him gain ground on points leader Tony Bartone.

Wells and tuner Norm Grimes' plan of attack is to establish a solid baseline this weekend and progress from there.

"We just want to go out there and get some solid runs under our belt and go from there," said Wells, of LeMars, Iowa. "That's the way we won in Las Vegas, and I think being able to do that will be a key here. Having a crew like I have, lead by Norm Grimes, Doug, Ladon, Randy and Mike is a big part of us being able to go out and accomplish that goal."

Wells also hopes to return to the 5.3 second zone again this weekend.

"It's going to take 5.30's to win this race," stated Wells. "We had this car running those kinds of numbers in Vegas which should be worse air than we'll see this weekend. That's our goal for the weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with and concludes Saturday afternoon. Round one of eliminations will be ran Saturday evening and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
