Connolly qualifies Nitro Fish Dodge 13th at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, April 3, 2009 -- Dave Connolly crossed one item off his SummitRacing Equipment Nationals' to-do list Saturday after qualifying Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish Dodge No. 13 in the starting position for Sunday's eliminations at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After missing what became Thursday's only qualifying run with an oil leak at the starting line, Connolly rebounded with a quarter-mile best of 6.751 seconds at 203.22 mph. He squares off against Jason Line (fourth, 6.697 at 205.82 mph) in the first round. He later added a run of 6.781 at 203.06 mph.

"This has been a fun weekend," said the Pro Stock standout, who didn't qualify last week at Houston in his first race with Koretsky. "I'm glad to be back out here. We'd like to have fun and go some rounds on Sunday.

"Our first run (Saturday) provided a good baseline for Eddie (Guarnaccia, crew chief) and got us in the show. It was a decent run, but we had a computer malfunction and he wasn't able to get any data to make adjustments for our second run."

Guarnaccia said he missed the clutch setup on the last run, "but we wanted to see if we could run a little better. Dave did a good job driving and we are glad we qualified. I think we learned something on our last run that we can use Sunday."

"It's been four months since I dropped the clutch on race day," Connolly continued. "We can give Jason a run for his money. I'll get up on the wheel to see if we can make it happen."
