Coughlin brother's eager to continue improving.
A total of 35 Pro Stock cars began their two-day qualifying battle today at the Texas Motorplex for the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals. The 16 available positions for race day are worth more then their weight in gold at this late point of the season.
Both of the Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavaliers improved with each pass down the all-concrete track during the first day of qualifying. Team Jeg's will have two additional opportunities to improve tomorrow (Saturday) before the field is set for race day.
Troy posted a run of 6.901 at 200.04 mph up on the boards. His best qualifying time of the day was just shy of being in the quick-sixteen.
Troy knows the team is headed in the right direction. Team Jeg's is eager to begin the second and final day where they left off and will focus on breaking into the field.
"When you make an error you have to learn from it and turn the negative into a positive. We did not want to get too aggressive during the night session and shoot ourselves in the foot. Now we can build on our success and continue to improve in the last two qualifying sessions," commented Troy.
Jeg Coughlin also improved with each run on the first day. He was the second quickest in the first and second session. His yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier showed strength in both lanes. Jeg holds down the No. 2 position with a run of 6.854 at 201.47 mph.
The 2000 Pro Stock Champion and his army of yellow and black soldiers are well aware the weekend is far from over even though they have started off so strong out of the trailer.
"It always feels good to run great right out of the trailer. We come to every NHRA POWERade Drag Racing event with a plan of attack. To make a solid run in each lane is a clear example of being prepared as a team. Our goal is to fine tune the set up in this Jeg's Chevy Cavalier for the rest of qualifying and put us in a position to win on race day," explained Jeg.
