Troxel disappointed in Dallas

DALLAS -- The 25th running of O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals is a race Melanie Troxel would just as soon forget. Troxel struggled to get her In-N-Out Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to run consistently and as a consequence she ended up outside the qualified field.

"The car is running well, but we didn't get the consistency we needed, " Troxel said. "We got ourselves in trouble here. "

The veteran driver 's quickest pass came during the Friday night session where she ran a 5.437 at 135.40 mph down the brutally hot Texas track.

Although she knew she needed to improve, Troxel was still optimistic heading into Saturday's action.

"We smoked the tires in the first run (Saturday) and at the time I didn't really think about the fact that maybe I should pedal the car just to get it down the track," Troxel said. "It might have gotten us in the 16th spot, but it might not have. Either way, I felt confident we could get in during Round 4."

However, a lengthy rain delay forced NHRA officials to cancel the fourth qualifying session for Funny Car, leaving Troxel off the pace.

"It's our first DNQ this year and it's frustrating for everybody," Troxel said. "We only got three passes and smoked the tires on every one of them.

"Losing the last qualifier is disappointing. We were about to warm up the car when we heard that they were going to be running a fourth session for everyone except Funny Car.

"When you end up with more than 16 cars at a race, someone is going to go home disappointed. Unfortunately that was our team this weekend. We're going to go home regroup and get ready for Vegas."

The next event for Troxel is the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals October 29-31 at The Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Not only will Troxel be running her In-N-Out Burger Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, she will also be competing in the Pro Mod Class.
