Fans and competitors came to the Texas Motorplex in anticipation of a great weekend of racing. Unfortunately, all discussions of big numbers and fast speeds were put on hold as a steady rain pelted the area throughout the first two days and prevented any significant on-track action. After several unsuccessful attempts to get qualifying underway were thwarted by returning showers, NHRA officials were forced to reluctantly postpone the O'Reilly Fall Nationals for two weeks. There will be one day of qualifying on Friday, November 3, with eliminations being held on Saturday, November 4.

"It's always disappointing when you don't race, but obviously we can't run in the rain," said Tom Martino. "We'll just have to put this event on hold and head to Houston. Unfortunately, this will put a heavy load on the teams, because we'll now finish the season with three straight weekends of racing, including a 1,600-mile drive to Pomona after the rescheduled O'Reilly Fall Nationals. It will be interesting, but this Century 21 Firebird racing team will be ready."
