Whisnant heads to Dallas

ENNIS, Texas -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier will arrive in Dallas Texas in anticipation of a good finish at this weekends 18th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals.

In the last part of this season Whisnant and Team RW have concentrated their efforts on revamping their race team. With their sights on the 2004 season, Team RW has been working tirelessly toward their eventual goal of being a contender for next years Pro Stock championship. After qualifying in Chicago, and barely missing the show in Reading, Whisnant feels he and his team are headed in the right direction.

"It is staring to come together," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "A lot of people use the phrase 'building momentum', but I really feel like that is what this team is doing.

"Racing Pro Stock is not easy. To be competitive in this class you cannot just throw horsepower at these cars. There are many variables that have to be taken into consideration. Horsepower is very important, but you also have to factor in clutch, gearing, how the car travels down the track, and a thousand other minute details. If you get off track in any one aspect of these cars, you are automatically behind the rest of the field. That is the position we found ourselves in this summer, far behind and not sure which way to go.

"The good news is that our hard work is starting to pay off. This team is getting stronger with every pass we make. We can really feel it staring to come together, but we are not kidding ourselves, we still have a lot of work left to do.

"I think we have a good chance of qualifying in Dallas this weekend. We get stronger with every pass, and the racing surface at the Texas Motorplex is one of the best we see all season. I feel like this will be a good race for us."

Qualifying at the 18th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas will begin on Friday Oct. 10 and finish on Saturday Oct. 11. Eliminations will take place at 11:00 AM CST on Sunday Oct. 12.
