POST-RACE NOTES: LONE STAR NATIONALS, MAY 1-4, DALLAS

TOP FUEL *Joe Amato continued his trend of all-or-nothing performances this season with a victory in the Keystone Automotive Warehouse Dragster. Amato, from Old Forge, Pa., has three victories and a runner-up finish in seven races this season. He lost in the first round at the other three races. *Larry Dixon climbed to 10th in the NHRA Winston point standings with his runner-up finish in the Miller Lite Dragster, only his second trip into the top 10 this year. Dixon, from San Diego, was tied for 10th after the second event of the season, the ATSCO Nationals in late February at Phoenix.

FUNNY CAR *Randy Anderson has climbed from a tie for 15th to third in the NHRA Winston point standings with victories in his last two national events in the Parts America Pontiac Firebird. *Randy Anderson became the second rookie in the pro categories to win two races this season. Anderson also beat John Force in the final of the Fram Nationals in mid-April at Atlanta. Top Fuel rookie Gary Scelzi also has won twice this year. *Randy Anderson became the ninth member of the Castrol 4- Second Club for Funny Cars with a pass of 4.963 seconds in the Parts America Pontiac Firebird. Anderson, from Ontario, Calif., earned a $1,000 bonus from Castrol.

PRO STOCK *Warren Johnson qualified No. 1 for the sixth consecutive NHRA national event this season in the GM Performance Parts Pontiac Firebird. *Warren Johnson clinched the No. 1 seed for the DuPont Automotive Finishes Pro Stock Challenge for the fourth consecutive year. The special event, which has a $50,000 winner's purse, takes place May 17 during the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown, N.J.

GENERAL *Revell-Monogram Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers of plastic model kits and die-cast replicas, will sponsor the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series national event in October at Texas Motorplex. The Revell Nationals is scheduled for Oct. 16-19, 1997. -30- 5/5/97-LS5-069
