Goodyear Drivers John Force And Scott Kilby Clinch Championships

National Hot Rod Association: Funny Car ace John Force struggled through a bittersweet weekend at the O'Reily FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex. Force clinched his 11th NHRA championship, but did so shortly after the death of his mother. Gary Densham, the 55-year-old racer, beat Force in the final round. But Force had already earned enough points to lock the title away.

Larry Dixon and Kenny Bernstein will carry their battle for the Top Fuel title to the final event of the season. Dixon defeated Bernstein in the semifinals at Texas, then won the final round and pulled within 15 points of Bernstein, who leads the standings.

Bob Panella won the Pro Stock Truck event, beating Mike Coughlin in the final round. Panella can clinch the championship by making one qualifying pass in the final race of the season at Pomona next month.

In Pro Stock, V. Gains scored his second career victory and became the 14th different winner in that class this season. He beat former NBA player Tom Hammonds in the final round.

Goodyear's David Rampy won in Competition Eliminator when he beat Larry Pritchett in the finals.
