ENNIS, Tex., (Sept. 19, 2006) -- Doug Kalitta, driver of "Big Red", the 8,000-horsepower Mac Tools flagship Top Fuel dragster, has seen the highs and lows of quarter-mile drag racing at the Texas Motorplex, the venue of this weekend's, Sept. 22-24, O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals in Ennis, Tex., just south of downtown Dallas.

Kalitta, a nine-year veteran of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, made his first career NHRA final-round appearance at the Motorplex in his rookie season of 1998 during the spring event. He was again the Top Fuel runner-up the following year at the spring event in Dallas. When the NHRA placed only one Dallas event on the schedule in 2001, Kalitta once again went to the title round. He finally broke through with a victory in "Big D" in 2002. Since that time however, Kalitta and his Mac Tools team have struggled to go rounds at the only all-concrete race track that hosts an NHRA national event. In the previous three events in Dallas, Kalitta has progressed only as far as the second round of final eliminations.

"We've had some bad luck in Dallas lately," Kalitta said. "We've had some really good weekends at the Motorplex in the past though. Hopefully we'll get some of that magic back this weekend.

"We've only got five races left this year, so every single point counts. We need to qualify well and then go some rounds. It's that simple. We need to do that from here on out. Rahn (Tobler, crew chief) and our Mac Tools team are ready for the challenge. Now, all I have to do is get in the car and do my job."

Kalitta holds a 54-point lead in POWERade Top Fuel championship points.
