ENNIS, Texas, Sept. 20, 2008 -- Dave Connolly kept his hold on the No. 5 starting berth for Sunday's O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Nationals, but his 6.649-second elapsed time on the day's final run was equally as impressive because it came during Saturday's hottest part of the afternoon.

Connolly's 6.640-second run came Friday night and put the Charter Communications/Lucas Oil Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt team in fifth place going into a crucial Countdown to 1 playoff race. It's the second of six races that will determine the 2008 champion and he enters the race seventh in points. His first-round foe is Larry Morgan (No. 12, 6.661 at 206.48 mph).

One of the two drivers who recorded a better time than Connolly Saturday afternoon was Jeg Coughlin, his Cagnazzi Racing teammate and the No. 1 qualifier, who was timed in 6.641 seconds. Coughlin put up a 6.631-second time Friday night. Ron Krisher, the third Cagnazzi Racing entry, will start from the 16th position.

"It was a good run," said Connolly said of his Saturday effort. "The car ran decently all day. It was nice to get off the number eight and nine qualifying places where we've started recently. It's so tough. We have Larry in the first round and you never know what he'll do. I'll just try to hit the 'tree Sunday the way I was in qualifying."
