Faulty line lock sends knocks out Connolly in semis

ENNIS, Texas -- It looked like Dave Connolly was on his way to another Pro Stock final-round appearance Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex -- before a faulty line lock took charge.

As Connolly pulled in to stage the car for his critical race against Cagnazzi Racing teammate Jeg Coughlin, he couldn't get the Charter Communications/Lucas Oil Chevy Cobalt to stop creeping toward the starting line.

The result was a .024-second foul start, erasing his opportunity to race for the win.

"The line lock lost pressure," reported a disappointed Connolly. "The car just kept rolling on me and it was responsible for the red light and our bad 60-foot time."

Connolly did gain ground in the Countdown to 1 standings, moving into fifth place with 2126 points. He's four points out of fourth and 53 out of third place with the third of six playoff races scheduled for Memphis Motorsports Park, Sept. 26-28.

Coughlin, meanwhile, was runner-up to Greg Stanfield but he maintained his series lead. Coughlin is on top with 2225. Ron Krisher, the third Cagnazzi Racing entry, lost to Coughlin in the opening round and remains 10th.
