Jeg Has His Sights Set On No. 2

With the 2003 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship out of reach Jeg has his sights set on the No. 2 position in the points. The 33-year old two-time Pro Stock champion is ready to strike from the No. 3 position. He has 1385 points and trails the No. 2 position by 124 points or 6.2 rounds. There are 12 rounds of competition remaining before the 2003 NHRA POWERade season comes to a close at the season finale in Pomona, CA.

"We know that the championship is out of reach for us this year. Our program has posted some strong performances since we won in Sonoma (Calif.). We have our sights set on the No. 2 spot in the standings. We have made big gains in our program lately that are starting to show up on the track. Our goal is to end the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season on a high note and carry the momentum through the off season."

Last weekend at the rain postponed Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway Jeg missed an opportunity to close the gap on the No. 2 spot. Kurt Johnson failed to qualify, who is currently in the No. 2 position. Jeg had an uncharacteristic opening round defeat.

"There is no doubt that we wanted to capitalize on the opportunity of Kurt not qualifying," said Jeg. "We have three races remaining and 12 rounds of competition before the season is over."

Troy Coughlin is coming off of a runner up finish at the rain postponed Lucas Oil Nationals last weekend at Maple Grove Raceway. The Pro Stock veteran looks to continue his charge to a top ten finish at the Texas Motorplex this weekend.
