McClenathan Wants to Continue Success at Texas Motorplex

Combine "the best car we've had all year" with past success at a particular race track and you know why Cory McClenathan is looking forward to this weekend's O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

McClenathan and the Carrier Boyz Top Fuel team were silenced by rain in Reading, Pa., last weekend so this will be the FRAM Boost dragster's first outing since McClenathan's semifinal finish at Indianapolis three weeks ago.

"It would have been good to race at Reading, but we know we have a good car going to Dallas," said McClenathan. "Wes (Cerny, team crew chief) and I have won at Dallas before and now would be a good time to continue that success."

McClenathan was victorious at the Motorplex three times (2000, 1997 and 1996) and was runner-up twice (2002 and 1994).

He and the team are focusing on continuing the strong performances during the season's final five NHRA POWERade Series races.

"Our goal is to move up in points. We'd like to finish better than where we are now," added McClenathan, who is 10th with 815 points. He is 19 points out of ninth place and 47 out of eighth. Each round win is worth 20 points and 20 elimination rounds remain.

"We want to finish the year on a positive note for ourselves and our sponsors. If we can win some rounds and move up a notch or two in points on Sunday, we'll be very happy."

The team returns to Reading for the rain-delayed Toyo Nationals, Sept. 29/Oct. 1, and races at Richmond, Va., Oct. 6-8.
