Mechanical Glitch Slows FRAM Boost Dragster

ENNIS, Texas, Sept. 22, 2006 -- Cory McClenathan was frustrated Friday after his first two qualifying runs for Sunday's O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

"Our performance fell off since (his last race at) Indianapolis," said the driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Boost Top Fuel dragster. "We ran so well then . . . and now we're struggling. We have such a good race car and we want to run well here."

A mechanical problem surfaced on a hot, humid Friday, leaving crew chief Wes Cerny and assistant crew chief Tony Shortall looking for solutions.

McClenathan's best run of 4.913 seconds at 304.74 mph came on his first attempt. The second run, coming in optimum conditions, was marred by tire smoke, triggered by the mechanical trouble.

"We'll be OK for Saturday. Wes and Tony will figure it out."
