ANTRON BROWN FINISHES EIGHTH FRIDAY AT DALLAS

ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 24, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 8 qualifying position Friday evening at Texas Motorplex. The 1999 Dallas Pro Stock Motorcycle winner used an elapsed time of 3.981-seconds on Friday evening to finish eighth in the order.

Brown, who enters the third race in the Countdown to 1 playoff ranked sixth in the Top Fuel standings, lost traction on Friday's first qualifying pass and posted the 11th quickest elapsed time of the session. On a track that was 138-degrees, one of the hottest all season long, Brown's bright blue Matco-backed rail lost traction as the 24-time winner pedaled to a lap of 4.536 seconds at 197.31 mph. On Friday's second pass, the eight-time Top Fuel winner used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power to a lap of 3.981 at 303.91. That placed Brown eighth in the 16-car field. Brown qualified sixth at 3.878-seconds last season September at Dallas.

"After missing it on that first run, we just had to get down the track to get in the field and we did that," Brown said. "It was a nice, solid lap and now we're in the show. Now we can concentrate on making two good runs in the heat on Saturday and get ready for race day."

Professional nitro qualifying will conclude on Saturday afternoon at Texas Motorplex with sessions scheduled for Noon and 3:15 p.m. (CT). Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car.
