Pedregon Makes Progress During Pre-Season Testing

Chandler, Ariz., February 10, 2004 -- As the 2004 NHRA POWERade Series draws ever so close, the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car team prepared for their 2004 campaign with test sessions at The Strip in Las Vegas and Firebird International Raceway (FIR) in Chandler, Ariz.

In what was a very productive couple of weeks, former Funny Car champion, Cruz Pedregon and his crew focused on getting more accustomed to the car. "We are very pleased with the progress we've made with our Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car during testing these past couple of weeks," said Cruz. "Wes is learning about the car and what it wants. We tested a lot of different combinations and setups. It was a productive test session and we feel very good about heading into the start of this season."

With cool temperatures in Las Vegas and less than pleasant conditions in Chandler, Ariz., Cruz made a number of short squirts and half-track passes. At FIR, he was able to use up some track and run a 5.07 second elapsed time at 254.14 mph before clicking off early. His 60-foot times were one of the best in comparison to others in attendance with a .880 and .892.

"We really worked hard on getting our timing down and putting up some good 60-foot time numbers," said Cruz. "We got a lot of runs in and the team did a great job. We're anxious for Pomona to get here and get this season underway."

The team is now back at the shop in Camarillo, Calif., where they will continue their preparations for next week's NHRA POWERade season opener, on February 19-22 at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.
