HAMMONDS NOT QUALIFYING ALLOWS TEAM TO REGROUP

(COMMERCE, Ga, April 26, 2008) - - Day two of qualifying for the Southern Nationals at the Atlanta Dragway, Tom Hammonds failed to qualify for elimination Sunday. Bringing home a win in Atlanta was his goal, but the race results reflect he has some work to do.

"I was encouraged with the last run we made even though it was not a qualifying time. It was the best run of the weekend for us in the worst session as far as the conditions are concerned," said driver/owner Hammonds. "The changes that we made were positive. We are not quite where we need to be and that is why we have to continue working and testing.

In the third qualifying session of the day, he ran an elapsed time of 6.811 seconds at 203.25 mph and 6.758 seconds at 203.77 mph for the fourth qualifying session. Both were not enough to bump into the field.

"A pro stock car is not like a regular Chevy Cobalt that you buy off of a showroom floor. Pro stock cars are complex pieces of equipment that require a lot of attention. I equate it to a Rubik's cube. If you twist it one way, it affects the other side, and that is how it seems our Cobalt is performing."

"We made some changes at the beginning of the year, we thought were for the better. We also brought in an outside consultant and as a result made some changes that may have had an adverse effect on another part of our chassis. We are going to try to stay here and test Monday and Tuesday and put everything back to baseline and see what happens."

Hammonds still has confidence that he is equip with a good car in their Chevy Cobalt and a competitive engine program

"We need to qualify! We can't really think about winning anything now until we qualify consistently. Until we can qualify consistently we cannot take it to the next step and have a chance of winning a race. We want to qualify; the next step after you qualify is to get first round lane choice. After that, we can think about winning a race."
