DIXON REMAINS IN NO. 6 POSITION AT ATLANTA DRAGWAY

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 6, 2006) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the No. 6 qualifying position Saturday at Atlanta Dragway after posting a qualifying-best elapsed time of 4.559 seconds behind the wheel of his Miller Lite dragster.

Dixon's best pass of qualifying came on Friday's second effort, when he powered the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail to a performance of 4.559 seconds at 329.10 mph under the lights at Atlanta Dragway. Dixon's speed was the fastest of qualifying. The 38-time NHRA winner used a tune-up from crew chief Don Bender to clock a 4.638, 325.30 pass on his final qualifying attempt on Saturday afternoon. This is the 23rd time that Dixon has started from the No. 6 spot.

"We made the show and qualified better than we did last weekend," Bender said. "We need to work on our hot weather tune-up, a lot."

Dixon will do battle against No. 11 qualifier David Grubnic in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) on Sunday morning at Atlanta Dragway. Dixon is 17-6 in his career against the Australian native.
