DIXON BLASTS MILLER LITE RAIL TO THIRD SPOT TO BEGIN HOT ATLANTA EVENT

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 13, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon made two consistent passes down the Atlanta Dragway quarter mile on Friday to place his Miller Lite dragster in the third qualifying position after the first day of qualifying in a hot, sunny Georgia.

Dixon, who enters the 25th annual Southern Nationals in third place in the POWERade points chase, opened qualifying under a scorching sun by driving his Don Prudhomme-owned dragster to a performance of 4.708 seconds at 307.72 mph.

After the sun went down and the temperatures cooled, Dixon powered his Dick LaHaie-tuned rail to a pass of 4.604 at 319.98 to place the Miller Lite/Ameriquest dragster in the third qualifying position with two of four scheduled qualifying sessions completed in the Peach State.

"The car didn't run well on the first pass," Dixon said. "We needed to fix that before the second pass if we wanted to improve and get the car to run on all eight cylinders. It ran better on the night run, but we're still working on the motor.

"My guess is that (Dick) LaHaie will work on getting the engine to run nice and then work on adjusting the clutch. We'll see where we're at tomorrow afternoon."

Dixon and the Miller Lite team aim to claim the top qualifying spot when Top Fuel qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday at Atlanta Dragway. Dixon is a three-time Southern Nationals winner.
