Will edged in Round 2 at Atlanta Dragway

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 7, 2006) -- After a rain delay of just over four hours, eliminations for the 26th annual NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals presented by Pontiac got underway this afternoon at Atlanta Dragway.

Running an elapsed time of 4.538 seconds, Hillary Will, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster, took the win light over Scott Weis in the opening round.

In the quarterfinals, Will was edged by Melanie Troxel. Will ran a career best elapsed time of 4.507 seconds at 324.98 mph. Troxel ran a 4.496-second elapsed time at a career best speed of 331.04 mph. It was a great drag race between the two drivers.

"My team gives me a good race car each and every time we go to the starting line. I know that," said Will. "We have the most consistent car out here. I came out fighting today. We gave it our all. We gave the fans a good race. We get it next time."

For the third consecutive event, Will and her crew, led by crew chief Jim Oberhofer, won the NHRA Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship program award for the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals. The program awards bonus money utilizing a point system based on a combination of qualifying position and elapsed time. Will accepted the $3,000 check on behalf of her crew and team owner Ken Black. Currently, Will's team is leading the point standings for the season-long Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship which pays $25,000 to the winning team.

Next Will and her KB Racing LLC team head to Columbus for the NHRA Pontiac Performance Nationals presented by Summit which will be contested May 18-21 at National Trail Raceway, in Kirkersville, Ohio.

ESPN2 will air three hours of same-day television coverage of eliminations from the 26th annual NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals presented by Pontiac beginning at 7 tonight (May 7). The elimination show repeats early Tuesday morning (May 9) from 2-4 a.m., also on ESPN2 Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.
