Kalitta sets a new heading for Atlanta.
Atlanta, Ga., April 29, 2003 -- Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools/Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragster team hope to put their recent past behind them, way behind them, as they and the rest of their competitors in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series continue their southern tack from last weekend's event in Bristol, Tenn., to the hospitality of the Peach State for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga., just northeast of Atlanta, May 1-4.
After a weekend in Bristol that members of the Mac Tools crew coined as "the weekend when nothing worked right", Kalitta is ready to get back on the drag strip to erase all memories of his first round red-light, foul start in Bristol and the frustrations of mechanical gremlins that plagued the team for three days.
"I still can't believe that I left early in Bristol," recalled Kalitta. "It is very disappointing for me and the Mac Tools team, but we win together and lose together as a team. We will put it behind us and move on. We had a lot of little mechanical problems in Bristol too that we rarely, if ever, have. Hopefully, we have that all out of our way now. Our goal remains to win the Top Fuel championship in 2003, and we are still in a position to do just that."
Kalitta is third in NHRA POWERade Top Fuel championship points, 113 points behind leader, Brandon Bernstein.
The action at Atlanta Dragway heats up for Top Fuelers and the other professional classes when qualifying begins Friday.
