Herbert Advances to Quarterfinals in Rain Delayed Southern Nationals

COMMERCE, Ga. (April 27, 2008) Doug Herbert, owner and driver of the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel dragster, advanced to the quarterfinal round of the rain delayed NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

Once the rain subsided and track drying had been completed, Herbert squared off against Doug Kalitta in a battle of the tool companies for the opening round of eliminations. First off the line, Herbert took the SnaponFranchise.com dragster into the second round with his 4.72 second pass at 306.12 mph besting Kalitta's 5.103 second pass at 224.43 mph.

Quarterfinal action pitted Herbert against Rod Fuller. Again first off the line with a stellar reaction time (.026 of a second to Fuller's .093 of a second), Herbert had the early lead but the motor let loose just before the finish line. His 4.75 at 265.33 wasn't enough for Fuller's 4.55 at 324.44.

"I did my job and we had him off the starting line," said Herbert. "The car wasn't what we needed it to be. It just laid over near the finish line.

"We didn't bring a good car, and that's all there is to it. We will get it figured out one way or another in the next few weeks. Rest assured, we will get it fixed and be ready to win some races sooner instead of later."
