David Baca Looking for Improvements During Busy Schedule Ahead

COMMERCE, Ga. - David Baca sees good things when he looks at a NHRA schedule that includes six races in seven weeks. The positive approach, after all, is the best approach.

"I'm very optimistic about our chances," said Baca, driver of the Baca Motorsports Top Fuel dragster. "It surely can't hurt us."

The upcoming three races in May and three in June are the same total as those run in the first three months of POWERade Series competition. The first six races, however, didn't deliver the results sought by Baca, his father/co-tuner Dennis Baca, and co-tuner Larry Meyer.

"I don't like where we are (in points) right now," David said. "We're not in the top 10, and that's where we want to be."

Inconsistent outings have been a bane to the Baca team's point gathering opportunities. Nonetheless, David is 12th, only 61 points behind the No. 10 driver (244-183) with 17 races remaining.

"We believe we are so close to seeing a remarkable improvement in the car's performance," David continued. "We are excited about going to Georgia and making the adjustments in the bell housing that will solve our problems. We know that all it takes is a little adjustment here and a little adjustment there to make the car run like it should. We've been very disappointed that it's taken us this long to run as well as we know we can."

Inclement weather at Bristol, Tenn. (April 29-30) limited every team to only one qualifying run at a time when the Baca Motorsports team definitely needed all four to make changes and check the results. Pleasant weekend weather in north Georgia will be greeted favorably by the Bacas.

The series moves to Columbus, Ohio, next week and Topeka, Kan., May 27-29. After a week off, the next stops are at Chicago (June 10-12), Englishtown, N.J. (June 17-19), and St. Louis (June 24-26).

Throughout 2005, Baca Motorsports appreciates the support of the following associate sponsors: Champion Spark Plugs, Don Steves Chevrolet (La Habra, Calif.), Goodyear, Lucas Oil, Mac Tools and Weld Racing Wheels.
