REICHERT, BOHL TAKE WINS AT NATIONAL TRAIL
HEBRON, Ohio -- Bill Reichert stretched his points lead in both the National and Division standing this weekend taking the win in Top Alcohol Dragster at National Trail Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
Reichert saved his best run for last knocking off Marty Thacker with a run of 5.344 seconds at 264.86 mph.Thacker, a former division champion, left first with a 0.033 second reaction time but could not hold off Reichert crossing the finish line in 5.546 seconds at 256.11 mph. Reichert, from Owosso, Mich., hopes to defend his national championship and is on his way with this, his sixth win of the year.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car is was Andy Bohl taking the win and his first of the season beating out veteran and 5-time North Central Division Champion Chuck Cheeseman on a hole-shot.Bohl ran a 5.821 second lap at 248.93 mph to a quicker 5.809 at 248.25 mph by Cheeseman. It was Bohl's reaction time of 0.090 seconds that was the difference, giving him the win.
Mike Coughlin put his Jegs Mail Order '07 Cobalt in the winner's circle taking the win in the Dart Top Sportsman class for the second time this year. Coughlin, of neighboring Delaware, Ohio, held off Ronnie Proctor with a run of 7.084 seconds at 193.65 mph to Proctor's 7.177 at 194.21. The win moves Coughlin closer to the division point's lead, as he entered the event in the number two spot.
Troy Williams doubled his pleasure winning in both Super Comp and in the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class. Williams was one of three drivers who had a shot at double wins today as Greg Kamplain and Edmond Richardson both advanced to the finals in two different categories but came up short in their final round match ups.
Williams out ran Richardson in the Super Comp Final after both drivers had near perfect reaction times of 0.001 seconds (0.000 is perfect). Williams' winning run of 8.911 seconds at 164.63 mph over Richardson gave him his second win as he beat Greg Kamplain in the final of Top Dragster just minutes before.
Hometown racer Brian Webster of Newark, Ohio, won in Super Street beating out Walbridge, Ohio's Brian Horton. Webster drove his '67 Camaro to a pass of 10.910 seconds at 133.72 mph to Hoyrton's 10.914 second, 131.04 mph lap.
Joining in with wins this weekend were David Eaton of Merritt Island, Fla., in Comp Eliminator over Greg Kamplain; Bobby Rashid won over Mike Walter in Super Stock in his '82 Firebird; and Pat Martin of London, Ohio, took the win in Super Gas.
North Central Division racers head to Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August 24-26.
