Cleveland resident makes Indians pre-game appearance
CLEVELAND, Ohio (June 10, 2002) -- Dean Skuza loves the Cleveland Indians and Major League Baseball.
Mopar Parts Dodge Stratus R/T Nitro Funny Car driver Skuza will be at Jacob's Field with his favorite baseball team tonight. The Brecksville, Ohio resident, a suburb of Cleveland, will be the special guest on tonight's Indians pre-game show on FOX Sports Net Ohio. Skuza will be answering questions and talking baseball on' 60 seconds,' a pre-game feature aired prior to the Indians opening a three-game interleague series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
"I follow the Indians religiously," said Skuza, who has been known to have Chief Wahoo (Indian's team logo) adorn his Stratus R/T Funny Car on occasion."It's going to be a lot of fun to be with these guys.
"I usually go to 10 to 15 games a year," Skuza added." I can't wait for this one though. They opened the season as the hottest team in the majors. Now they are battling to stay in the playoff race. There season is more grueling than what the NHRA goes through, but we both can suffer the ups and downs of a long season."
Skuza will also be on the field and in the dugout at Jacob's Field.
Mopar Motorsports NHRA Storylines
Home Cooking. Larry Morgan has spent the last few days testing his Hemi-powered Mopar Parts Dodge Neon R/T and enters this weekend's hometown NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tilt at National Trail Raceway with high expectations.
The Newark, Ohio resident, which is a little more than 10 miles away from National Trail Raceway, has been hard at work with testing and engine development. Following qualifying at Heartland Park Topeka (Kan.), Morgan tested at Gateway International. He's also made some laps at nearby Norwalk (Ohio) Raceway Park.
"We trying to get back on track," Morgan said."And this weekend is a big one for us because its in front of family and friends. We think we've found some our issues and we look for a good weekend.
"We definitely want to perform well this weekend," Morgan continued."Not only will family and friend be there, but this also is the closest race to Detroit. And, as we all know, Mopar and Dodge are there. So, this weekend means a lot."
Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Newark, Ohio resident Larry Morgan, who drives the blue Mopar Parts Dodge Neon R/T Pro Stock entry, will be signing autographs and speaking with baseball fans during the Columbus Clippers game against the Indianapolis Indians at Cooper Stadium on Wednesday, June 12.
Morgan will be attending' NHRA Night' at the stadium, prior to competing at this weekend's NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national event at nearby National Trail Raceway in Kirkersville, Ohio.
"This is going to be a real treat for me," Morgan said."I enjoy baseball quite a bit, but I've never been to a Clippers game. I'm really looking forward to it, especially after a long day of testing at Norwalk (Ohio) Raceway Park."
Morgan, 47, was the first NHRA Pro Stock driver to make a 200-plus mph pass with the new factory designed 500-cubic-inch Pro Stock Hemi. Morgan has racked up eight Pro stock victories and four No. 1 qualifiers over his 15-year professional NHRA career. The veteran driver also has seven NHRA Sportsman category national event victories to his credit.
The Clippers are the Triple A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
Tree Work. Darrell Alderman has a 3-1 record versus Warren Johnson this season. But all three of his victories have come on a holeshot, while the three-time NHRA Pro Stock World Champion also took a starting-line advantage in his only loss to Johnson this season.
Father's Day. The Mopar family of NHRA drivers have some well-known fathers in its midst. As many NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series fans know, Don Skuza owns Skuza Motorsports, which fields the Mopar Parts Dodge Stratus R/T Nitro Funny Car driven by Dean Skuza. Don also plays an integral part on race day measuring the nitromethane and making sure Dean is in the race track's groove.
If fishing is your game, then you definitely know who Gene Wilson's father is. The Mopar Parts Pro Stock rookie is the son of television personality Orlando Wilson.
