White shooting for Division 3 lead in Columbus
KIRKERSVILLE, Ohio - Just two weeks after picking up his first national event win of the year, NHRA Federal Mogul Funny Car driver Marc White will be looking to score his first divisional win of the year during this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway just outside of Columbus, Ohio. At White's last outing there in the Etterman Racing 2001 Firebird, he won five out of seven rounds, and hopes to continue his winning ways this weekend.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., hopes the weatherman's forecast for the Columbus area this weekend is right. The forecasted high for Friday is only 75 degrees, and mid to low 80's for the rest of the weekend, an escape from the low 90's the team has seen at it's last few races. White feels with cooler weather, the lower track temperature should make it easier to return to 5.7 second elapsed times he ran earlier in the year.
"We'll just go there and continue with the same basic tune-up we have been working on the last couple weeks," said White. "It's supposed to be cool there this weekend, so that will make it a little easier to deal with the place. If it's hot and muggy, that racetrack tends to get a little greasy. If it's cool weather, we ought to be able to run pretty decent."
Coming into this weekend, White trails the current Division 3 Federal Mogul Funny Car Champion Chuck Cheeseman by a mere 2 points in the Division 3 standings. White hopes to replace that lead with a lead of his own after this weekend.
"Obviously, since we're behind Chuck, we need to at least get one round further than he does," stated White. "We've raced at one more race than he has, so we're actually more than a round behind him. It's like we've always said, if we can win the race, the points come. So, we'll just go there with the intention of winning the race, like we do every weekend, and if that happens, everything will just take care of itself."
Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. Friday for the Federal Mogul Funny Cars. Stay tuned to the team's website, EttermanRacing.com, for daily updates of the team's progress.
