DIXON FINISHES FOURTH FRIDAY AT COLUMBUS ON RAIN-SHORTENED DAY OF QUALIFYING

HEBRON, Ohio (May 19, 2006) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon raced to the fourth quickest pass of the opening day of qualifying Friday at National Trail Raceway as qualifying kicked-off for the 42nd annual Pontiac Performance Nationals.

Dixon, who qualified No. 1 at the Columbus event last May, opened qualifying at the historic Ohio drag strip by driving his Don Bender-tuned rail to a performance of 4.531 seconds at 324.28 mph to position the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail second following the first of four scheduled qualifying attempts.

During the second Top Fuel session, the skies opened forcing the cancellation of the rest of the second session with many cars, including Dixon's Miller-backed rail, waiting in line. Two cars ran quicker than the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil dragster during the abbreviated session moving Dixon to fourth in the Top Fuel order.

"The car was setup just like it was at Atlanta and it went down the track," Dixon said.

Qualifying will continue on Saturday afternoon with sessions scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) at National Trail Raceway. Dixon is a three-time winner (2001-03) of the Columbus NHRA race.
