JEG'S - Hometown Boys Come Out Swinging
With the JEG'S Mail Order Racing Team playing this weekend in their backyard there's plenty going on with the home town team. Mike and John Coughlin were busy in the heat today, the Pro Stock Truck class began qualifying today. In addition, Super Stock had two qualifying sessions that added to John's performance plate. The Pro Stock brother duo of Jeg and Troy Coughlin had the day off and spent the day helping their brothers (Mike & John). Pro Stock begins qualifying tomorrow.
Mike Coughlin/Pro Stock Truck:
Mike Coughlin showed the home town crowd that he's ready to race. With the heat to contend with, Mike and his #28 JEG'S Mail Order S-10 ignored the heat and marched straight to the number two spot after the first qualifying session. "Wow! The truck felt great and we made the type of run we needed to start this weekend off on the right foot," stated Coughlin. During the second qualifying session Mike improved both his ET and Mph, and slipped one position to the number three spot. "At this point we are just making small measurable changes to the setup of the truck to see where the line is that we don't want to cross."
John Coughlin/Pro Stock Truck:
The #31 JEG'S Mail Order S-10 came right out of the trailer and landed in the number five position after the first of four scheduled qualifying sessions. This was the first run on the new engine that is between the frame rails in John's S-10, sometimes it takes a couple of runs for the engine to use 100% of the energy that it produces. "It really takes a lot of pressure off of the team to roll the truck out of the trailer and make a first run like we did today," said Coughlin. John's truck slowed a little during the second session and slipped to the number eight position. "There is a very fine line of what works and what doesn't work. The data that the trucks generate give the team clues about what the trucks like and don't like. During the second session we just went he wrong way by a very small amount."
John Coughlin/Super Stock:
John and his #33 JEG'S Mail Order Pontiac Grand Am made the two allowed qualifying runs today. Coughlin posted an impressive .74 seconds under his 9.90 index for Super Stock/C Modified. The JEG'S car showed that it likes being at the race track. John will compete in the Federal-Mogul All-star race Saturday as the division 3 representative in Super Stock. John is the fourth of the four Coughlin brother's to compete in this unique event that puts the "best of the best" head-to-head. The familiar yellow and black JEG'S car showed that it will be a force to contend with all weekend.
John will be the first participant in the Federal-Mogul All-star Race to have an in car camera. The camera will be in use for the weekend and will give viewers a rare opportunity. The camera will be mounted between the two seats on a cross bar, which will show what it's like to be in a car doing a wheelie and land back on the ground. John's Super Stock car runs approx. 9.16 @ 148 Mph.
