National Hot Rod Association: Don Prudhomme-owned cars won both the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes in the Pontiac Excitement Nationals at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio.

Goodyear-shod cars won seven of the 11 classes the brand was entered in. Since the start of the season, Goodyear cars have won an industry-leading 66 final rounds in NHRA national competition. Included in that total are 33 victories in sportsman competition, making Goodyear the leading tiremaker in those classes as well.

Larry Dixon won the Top Fuel final and Ron Capps won in Funny Car.

Other Goodyear winners included Greg Anderson in Pro Stock, Gary Ormsby in Top Alcohol Dragster, Mike Coughlin in Super Comp, Tom Seeman in Super Gas and Jeff Taylor in Competition Eliminator.

Ormsby broke the existing track record in qualifying, marking the fourth time this season in which he has set a record. Not all of the marks have come in NHRA competition.
