Treble sails into Columbus to defend title

For the third time this year, Crag Treble and his Matco Tools Pro Stock Bike team head into a NHRA POWERade National event, intending to defend their win from the previous season. At the 2003 Pontiac Excitement Nationals their plan will be simple, return to the basic's that brought them success at National Trail Raceway before.

Craig Treble explains, "We have plenty of power, we always have, but in the attempt to run as fast as we can on every pass down the track, we have been inconsistent and that just doesn't win races. Our plan is to go 'old School' and go back to some combinations that we have proven produce round wins for this team."

For the last few events, the Matco Tools team has been racing one bike, while testing and refining another. "We have a new Kosman Chassis that is showing great potential, and we just want everything to be absolutely right before we jump into national event competition with it. The new bike works good, feels good, and I feel comfortable on it, so it will hopefully be ready soon. That will allow us to concentrate on one chassis instead of both like we have been doing all year, and that alone will give us some consistency in our program.

Craig Treble is currently in 5th place in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike point standings for 2003, and with spread between the top 5 being very close, Treble is still optimistic about capturing the World Championship before the season wraps up in Pomona this November. "It is still early in the season, and as everyone has seen in previous years it often goes down to the wire in Pro Stock Bike. We still believe we can get a few event wins this year, and end up with the POWERade Championship for 2003" <pre> Event schedule:
