Collins Racing Struggles in Round 2

POMONA, Calif. (Feb 6) -- As the sun came out and the fans started to fill the grandstands at the 39th Annual Autozone Winternationals at Pomona Raceway, the Collins Racing Pontiacs struggled to find the right set-up during the second round of qualifying.

Here's a rundown of each driver's Round 2 lap.

Richie "The Kid" Stevens, the first of the Collins Racing Valspar Refinish Pontiacs to qualify, ran a lap of 7.037 seconds at 193.05 mph. Stevens, hoping for a good run after his victory here in November had little to say.

"I had some of the same problems as yesterday," Stevens said. "The motor has developed a miss in third gear and it just pulls the motor down. The crew is going to change engines before the next round, so hopefully that takes care of the problem."

Shawn Collins, driver of the No. 1 Collins Racing Pontiac, shut his car off before the finish because it was heading for the wall. "I had way too much clutch in the car off the line," Collins said. "The car started shaking in the first 60 feet, I hit second gear and the car made a sharp left turn towards the wall so I shut it down.

"We've got one more shot at it and I think we can make it. We just need to work a little bit harder. I'm confident that we can get both cars in the field."
