Joliet, ILL (May 30, 1998) -- For the second time in less than a year, Paul Romine and his CARQUEST team have qualified in the quickest Top Fuel field in NHRA history.

At the 1997 NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis where Romine qualified ninth with a 4.700, then the all-time quickest 16-car Top Fuel bump was set by Pat Dakin’s 4.758. That bump was lowered at the inaugural 1998 NHRA Fram Route 66 Nationals with Cristen Powell capturing the bump spot with a 4.754 elapsed time.

Of 26 cars attempting to qualify, Romine qualified his CARQUEST Top Fuel dragster 13th in the NHRA Fram Route 66 Nationals field with a 4.737/284.27.

In round one of final eliminations, Romine will race Larry Dixon who qualified 4th with a 4.636/312.50. The two Top Fuel competitors have met once in final eliminations competition with Dixon picking up a round one victory at the 1997 NHRA Fram Nationals in Atlanta.
