PEDREGON PUTS TOYOTA ONFUNNY CAR POLE; BROWN SECOND IN TOP FUEL QUALIFYING
CONCORD, N.C. (September 18, 2010) -- Cruz Pedregon continued a hot late-season run with his first number one qualifying position of the season, while Antron Brown qualified second in Top Fuel in preparation for Sunday's NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series' O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina.
Pedregon has now qualified his Snap-On Tools Toyota Camry Solara in the top half of the field in each of the last eight races, including six top-five efforts. In addition to Friday's pole run, Pedregon also topped each of Saturday's sessions. Joining him in the Funny Car ranks is Del Worsham who qualified fifth.
"We totally revamped the Snap-On Toyota team this year and we went through some growing pains early, but about 10 races ago, things started to come together," said Pedregon, a two-time Funny Car champion. "At this point, our goal is to come out and be aggressive each week.
We've qualified in the top half of the field 10 races in a row against some great drivers and great cars. We're going to use this time to prepare for a title run next season."
Brown, who entered this weekend's action seventh in points, registered his ninth top-two qualifying run of the season and was edged out by just .003 seconds for the top spot. Among the other Toyota-sponsored drivers, points leader Larry Dixon topped both Saturday sessions and is fourth, while Morgan Lucas Racing teammates Shawn Langdon and Morgan Lucas are ninth and 16th.
After earning six bonus points for leading both qualifying sessions today, Larry Dixon will take a 45-point lead heading into Sunday's eliminations. Dixon has won 10 of the season's first 18 events.
