HOT ROD FULLER DRIVES TO QUARTERFINALS AT CHARLOTTE 2
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2010) - "Hot Rod" Fuller raced his ADMM-owned Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuit dragster to a quarterfinal finish Sunday afternoon at zMax Dragway at Concord. It was Fuller's final start of the 2010 NHRA season.
A day after racing his Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuit car to the No. 8 qualifying position at 3.893-seconds, Fuller knocked off two-time NHRA Super Comp champion Shawn Langdon before smoking the tires against title-contender Cory McClenathan in round two. Fuller finished his four-race 2010 stint with a mark of 3-4.
Fuller was matched up against Langdon for the second time in four races. Langdon used the best reaction time of the round, .025 of-a-second, but Fuller's Lee Beard-tuned car earned the win light. The Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuit car sped to a lap of 3.890 seconds at 318.54 mph. It was the second fastest speed of the round (320.81 mph, Tony Schumacher). Langdon's red and white dragster slowed down track and posted a run of 4.038 at 296.89.
Fuller was matched up against his DSR teammate for the first time this season. The drivers used nearly identical reaction times, but Fuller's Yas Marina Circuit-backed rail lost traction very early and slowed to a lap of 6.153 at 123.04. McClenathan sped to the quickest lap of the quarterfinals at 3.941 at 309.63 to advance to the semifinals. Fuller is 5-7 in 12 career races against the 34-time Top Fuel winner.
"Well, it's kind of a bummer knowing this is our last race of the season," Fuller said. "We ran pretty good in qualifying and made a good opening lap, but all three of our DSR cars that ran in the left lane smoked the tires. That's very uncharacteristic. I want to thank Lee Beard and my entire crew for doing a great job these four races and the people of Abu Dhabi and Yas Marina Circuit for the opportunity to drive this great race car. We hope to be back in 2011 and are working very hard to make that happen."
