Payne ready to put FireIce Mustang back in victory circle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept.17) -- Jay Payne is looking to get the FireIce Ford Mustang back on the winning track in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway.

After a forgettable DNQ in Indianapolis two weeks ago, Payne said he gave his car a close once-over before pulling into Charlotte.

"After the problems we had in Indy with the Pro Mod car, we gave everything a second look," Payne said. "We think the car is better and we're hoping to get a win for all the firefighters across America who are in our corner every race weekend."

Payne fell to eighth in the Get Screened America standings after the U.S. Nationals, but he's only 11 points (less than one round of racing) out of the fifth place spot.

"There's only two races left in the season, so every round is important," Payne said. "If we have a solid finish this weekend, we'll be right back where we need to be."

Payne will have more than just firefighters behind him in Charlotte. This weekend the FireIce team is saluting the good work done by the charity Angel Faces.

Angel Faces (on the Web at www.angelfacesretreat.org) provides healing retreats and ongoing support designed to inspire adolescent girls with severe facial disfigurements to achieve their optimum potential.

"The work Angel Faces does is amazing," Payne said. "We're proud to have them alongside us this weekend."
