ANTRON BROWN EARNS PROVISIONAL NO. 2 SPOT FRIDAY AT CHARLOTTE

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 17, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 2 qualifying position Friday evening at zMax Dragway at Concord with an elapsed time of 3.832-seconds.

Brown, who enters the second race in the Countdown to 1 playoff ranked seventh in the Top Fuel standings, lost traction on Friday's opening effort as his Matco Tools rail coasted to a lap of 6.664 seconds at 98.63 mph. An air line came loose on the pass causing the car to lose power. The Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald-led Matco Tools team made the proper adjustments for Friday's evening pass under the lights at zMax Dragway. Brown was the first dragster to go down the track in the second qualifying session at the Charlotte-area track as he powered the bright blue Matco Tools/U.S. Army car to a lap of 3.832 at 315.93 to finish in the provisional No. 2 qualifying slot. Brown qualified second at 3.847-seconds at the Charlotte race last September. Only DSR teammate Cory McClenathan was quicker on Friday at 3.831-seconds in the Valvoline/FRAM dragster.

"We had a minor mechanical issue that bit us on the first lap, but our DSR Matco Tools team is the best in the business and they proved that tonight," Brown said. "Brian (Corradi) and Mark (Oswald) made a great call and the crew did an awesome job and we just missed that top spot. My boy Cory Mac (McClenathan) got us by a thou (one thousandth of-a-second), but it's all good. To finish second is good, now we just want to make two good laps in the heat on Saturday."
