ANTRON BROWN GRABS PROVISIONAL NO. 2 SPOT FRIDAY AT FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

CONCORD, N.C. (March 26, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Valvoline/Matco Tools dragster to the provisional No. 2 qualifying position on Friday evening at zMax Dragway at Concord. Brown carded two solid runs on the opening day of qualifying at the inaugural Four-Wide Nationals with his quickest elapsed time at 3.819-seconds.

Brown's first qualifying attempt came from lane four - the same lane he raced the four-wide exhibition race at zMax Dragway last September - as he used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power the Valvoline/Matco Tools rail to the fifth quickest run of the opening session at 3.867 seconds at 307.02 mph. Brown was the quickest of his heat and turned the win light on in his lane.

"I was just relaxed and wanted to have some fun," Brown said. "I watched the entire Pro Stock car and Funny Car sessions and that gave me a chance to get accustomed to the staging process. It's just a different atmosphere than what we're used to with staging against one other car. When we went down there, all the cars were between a 3.86 and 3.88 and that just shows how phenomenal this facility here at zMax really is."

Following an afternoon rain delay, Brown and the Valvoline/Matco Tools/U.S. Army team raced out of lane one. Brown used Corradi and Oswald horsepower to earn two bonus points by racing to the second quickest pass of the round at 3.819 seconds at 312.93 mph. Only DSR teammate and driver of the FRAM dragster Cory McClenathan was quicker at 3.790-seconds. McClenathan raced out of lane four.

"That was a really strong lap for our DSR Matco Tools team," Brown said. "It was cold and a lot of cars weren't getting down there, but we trucked right on through to a solid lap with that 3.81. We'll take No. 2 and I think we can run even better on Saturday."
