Friday, February 4, 2000 Pomona, California - Tom Martino recorded the first official 200 mph Pro Stock pass of the young season with a top speed of 200.14 mph during the second qualifying session for the AutoZone Winternationals in Pomona, California. In addition, Martino's 6.886-second elapsed time was enough to place the CENTURY 21( Firebird 3rd halfway through qualifying. Despite this impressive performance, Martino feels there is even more left.

"It was a really nice run. We were a little light on the clutch, and I honestly think we could have been on the pole if I had enough clutch in it. It also feels pretty good to have the CENTURY 21( Firebird be the only car to have gone 200 so far.

"All in all, not getting data from a proper run put us behind, so we were a little cautious today. It didn't bite us, because we still ran well, but that's why we didn't run up to our full potential. Today's was a very, very good run, but we just want to make an excellent one. We'll try to do that tomorrow."
