California Dragway Team To Compete in Regional Meet

FONTANA, Calif. (October 5, 2004) --- A team of nearly 50 cars will represent California Dragway in the NHRA Summit Division 7 ET Finals at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. on October 7-10, 2004.

"We are pleased to see 49 member cars competing in this event," California Speedway President Bill Miller said. "California Dragway is a strong part of what makes California Speedway such a dynamic event location. Not only can some of the country's top drivers compete here on a national level, but grass roots racing is also a very main part of our racing culture here at California Speedway."

This will be the first year that a team from California Dragway will compete in this season finale national meet. Racers representing the dragway draw from Southern California and have competed in four Summit Team Racing events at the strip. The bracket racers will be competing in either pro, sport, street or motorcycle classes.

The NHRA/Summit ET Finals is a shootout of 16 teams representing 16 tracks in Division 7 (Western region). Racers from Salt Lake City to San Diego, Tucson to Sears Point will be there to represent their respective tracks. One point is awarded to the team each time a competitor goes to the starting line. The team with the most points wins the title for the year.

A "test 'n tune" will be held on Thursday, October 7. A jackpot race will be held on Friday, October 8. Race of Champions and round 1 of Pro and Sportsman will be held on Saturday, October 9 with the final eliminations on Sunday, October 10. California Dragway is a quarter-mile dragstrip located at California Speedway. Originially constructed in 2001, the strip has stayed busy nearly every weekend during the 2004 season with Street Legal racing, Junior Dragsters or Division 7 meets.
