Glidden to call shots in Pomona, Perkinson says, "We're ready to go."
POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2011)- As the off-season comes to a close, Rookie of the Year candidate, Buddy Perkinson gets geared up to begin racing. But, Perkinson isn't the only one. Returning crew members have worked together to prepare a very promising Pro Stock race car.
Going through changes together, George Lark (team manager) tells us, "Everyone on the team has worked very hard these past few months getting everything set-up to run well. These guys have never worked better together as a team and that's what we were going for. We have Bob (Glidden) as Crew Chief for Pomona and he likes all of these guys. They all get along very well."
"He likes Buddy. During testing he mentioned that when he looks through the windshield and looks right through the helmet into Buddy's eyes, he sees himself," said Lark of how Glidden feels with Perkinson in the driver's seat.
Glidden and Perkinson established much more than friendship while testing in Bradenton last week, they established trust and a shared desire to be competitive this season, beginning with the Winternationals this weekend, Feb. 24-27.
"He listens, he learns, and he practices. He's ready to go race," said Glidden.
The mind-set is mutual for Perkinson. He has the upmost respect for Glidden and is honored to work closely with him. Perkinson is comfortable in the car, thanks to Glidden.
"When we went testing it wasn't a definite that we would even go to Pomona. I'm just thankful we will be there competing," said Perkinson.
"The first time I met Bob was testing (Bradenton, Fla.) and it couldn't have gone better than it did. He talked and I listened and if he tells me to do something I'm going to do it. I get along great with him. The chemistry between everyone on the team is phenomenal."
"I know some people have said it's got to be hard with Bob Glidden looking over your shoulder, but really for me, it was easier because I have that confidence in him. I feel like I have someone in my corner with years and years of experience."
