Troy Coughlin looks to make noise in Thunder Valley.

Troy Coughlin will enter the 2003 NHRA Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals this week ready to strike from the No. 15 position in the NHRA POWERade championship. He has 155 points and is a mere 27 points from breaking back into the top-ten.

"We spent a lot of time preparing the car for the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals," explained Troy. "We made a number of changes to the car and tested at Atlanta Dragway before the event. Our goal is to have back-to-back strong performances and be firmly into the top-ten after Atlanta."

Troy was the No. 1 qualifier last year at the event when his JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier posted a run of 6.853 seconds. In fact, Troy has had plenty of success at Bristol Dragway. In 1999 Troy scored a runner-up finish and followed up with a win in 2000.

"We have done well in the past at this track," said Troy. "However, there will be 40-plus drivers giving it everything they have to race on Sunday. Our goal is qualify and be a threat on race day. If we do that, everything else has the opportunity to fall into place."
