WILK TO RACE OUT OF 8th SPOT

Tim Wilkerson ended his qualifying runs with a solid, if not spectacular, A-to-B pass down what was a very hot and very tricky Bristol track on Saturday. His 4.337 was off his 4.238 pace from Friday, but it was the 4th-quickest pass of the final session and it set him up with some confidence going into Sunday. He will face Melanie Troxel in round one.

"On our first lap today, it basically shut itself off out there past halftrack, so we had to decipher what the problem was and get that fixed," Wilkerson said. "It was a bit of a thrash, but we got it under control and back together, and the whole aim on that last run was to give us a good hot-weather lap to get us ready for tomorrow. Not too many people went end to end, so even though we dropped a cylinder about two and a half seconds into the run, we still got it down there and that's a good thing.

"Melanie will be tough tomorrow, and on paper we should have the tightest match-up because we're eighth and ninth on the ladder. That car might not run full-time, but that's a full-time driver and a full-time crew over there, and they're all very talented. Mel does a great job driving the car, so I'm expecting them to make a good lap and I suspect we'll have to run even better if we want to get the win."
