Scott Palmer continues learning process at Bristol.

BRISTOL, Tenn., April 27, 2003 - Scott Palmer is finding out that sometimes you learn more in drag racing by not going anywhere.

This lesson came during qualifying for the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway and, Palmer believes, is invaluable information.

"We knew we had to hop up the tune-up if we had any hope of qualifying," said Palmer, first-year driver of the O'Reilly's Auto Parts/ACDelco/Simple Green Top Fuel dragster. "We turned up the blower before the last run and shook the tires. I knew what to expect and shut it off as soon as it began to shake. We now know we need a new blower to help us get our times down."

Palmer's best elapsed time was 4.836 seconds at 258.67 mph.

The car did make three runs, including a 4.918 and 5.001, during qualifying with Palmer shutting off early to avoid engine damage.

"We are making progress," he added. "We hope to have a new blower before our next race at Atlanta."

That event, the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, is scheduled May 2-4 at Atlanta Dragway, Commerce, Ga.
