BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Chevrolet Cavalier, entered eliminations at the third annual Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol hold the 11th position on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder. It was in the final session of qualifying that Whisnant clocked a 6.900 / 198.17 mph to secure his place in today's race. Whisnant's opponent in Round 1 was Number 6 qualifier Greg Stanfield.

As the lights came down the tree, Whisnant jumped the gun and left too early, handing the win to Stanfield. Stanfield ran a 6.942 / 200.13 mph to a red lighting Whisnant who ran a 6.966 / 198.44 mph.

"I can't say I am happy," said Whisnant. "I blew it, but I knew I had to take a shot at him. We had the bad lane, and ET wise, Stanfield had us covered. So, I had to try to beat him on the tree. It did not work out, and we are on our way home.

"I good news is that we qualified, and that has everything to do with my crew. My crew chiefs Markus (Svensson) and Gary (Pearman) pulled every little bit they could out of this Cavalier. Their knowledge and hard work got us into this race. I know I can count on the same hard work and dedication to get us in next weekend race in Atlanta. Right now that's all I have to look forward to."
